When we have tyres and roads, innovations are always in motion. Imagine tires that talk to your car, airless tires that eliminate the risk of flats, and self-inflating tires that maintain optimal air pressure. These innovations of tire technologies direct us into a future where our tires are smarter, more reliable, and eco-friendly.

Smart Tyres

The concept of tyres that can communicate with a car is fascinating. At Hankook’s new advanced research center, researchers are working on new innovative tyres that have the capacity to sense road friction, conditions, vehicle overload, crucial for road safety. Although this advancement is already present in some tyres. These are equipped with presure sensors, which can alert the driver on the onboard computer when the tyre needs more air. These advanced tyres are beneficial for self-driving and autonomous cars, which can make instant adjustments based on the tyres’ needs.

Airless Tyres

Consider a future where inflation is a thing in the past. Hankook innovation brings this vision in reality with its iFlex airless tire. The Airless tyres completed initial testing which evaluated durability, hardness, stability, slalom, and speed. The tyres have exceptional performance, reaching the speed of 80mph with the same performance as traditional tyres. These tyres are eco-friendly with recyclable materials, capable of meeting the demands of modern tyres.

EV Tyres

EV tyre is recognized for high torque and silent operation, creating a silent tyres with low resistance and the ability to stick to the road. In the manufacturing of these tyres, silica is used whivh provides these features. Salica was initially used for high performance sports car tyres, and has proven to be a game-changer for EV tires. The ability of low rolling resistance and superior traction makes it ideal for electric and hybrid vehicles, which enhances fuel efficiency and reducing fuel consumption.

Futuristic Concept Tyres

Imagine a future where your tires can hover above the road or climb stairs. Hankook’s design innovation series explores these amazing ideas, created in partnership with the University of Cincinnati. Here are some of their exciting concepts:

  • Mag Float: These tires use magnetic fields to float above the ground and can reach speeds of up to 12 mph.
  • Flexup: This tire has special treads and sensors that adjust based on the road surface, allowing it to move smoothly upstairs and around corners.
  • Shiftrac: Designed for police cars, these tires use a skating-like principle to make it easier to change lanes and turn quickly.
  • Autobine: For autonomous buses, these smart tires can attach or detach based on the number of passengers and the weight they need to support.
